Mission Teams

That is the item that has taken up most of our time the past few weeks. Three weeks ago, a group of young people arrived from Faith Baptist Church in Davison, MI. OREMUNDO Ministries was facilitating the trip (something we always enjoy, since they prepare the food and handle many of the logistics). We were particularly looking forward to this group since the youth pastor at Faith is Edd Bowen, a friend of ours from colleged. Unfortunately, Edd was not able to make the trip because his father had a massive heart attack Sunday morning as they were crossing into Mexico. Thankfully, Edd was able to return home right away to be with his father. Our prayer are with the Bowen family. We have not heard an update from them.

During the time the group was here they were able to work on several important projects. One group re-painted the university guest house in preparation for the arrival of Tom and Kim Chapman, Susan's brother and family, who will be assisting in the music department this year. Another group helped prepare the rebar for pooring the roof of the new kindergarten building. A special blessing was the third project that was done. We had a leak in the dorm that had messed up the tile on the second floor of the men's dormitory. We had fixed the leak but did not have the funds to fix the tile that had cracked quite badly. The group from Faith brought some extra money that, along with their hard work, was enough to fix the floor and replace the tile.

After a few days in McAllen, we then met another mission team at OREMUNDO in McAllen. This one came from our home church, Tri-City Baptist, in Independence, MO. Although we met at the OREMUNDO facilities, Tri-City did not come with OREMUNDO, so that implied a lot of extra work, especially for Susan, as she had to schedule and prepare the meals for the 34 people that came from Tri-City plus around 10-15 more people that were around. We greatly enjoyed the time of fellowship with friends we have known for years. We also got to know many people we didn't know at all. We enjoyed the time with them.

Arriving at the same time as Tri-City were Tom and Kim and their five children. I don't know how they did it, but they loaded all seven people and everything for the year in a mini-van! We are grateful to have them here. Our children have already greatly enjoyed having their cousins around. We aren't used to getting to see family on an ongoing basis. Pray that Tom and Kim will enjoy their year here. The plan is for them to return to BJU next year, where Tom will pursue a Masters degree. Upon finishing that, they will be going on deputation to return to Mexico to work in the music program here. Pray that the Lord will work out all the details and provide the finances that they need for this to come about as quickly as possible.
